The Larder launches The Filter Bar

We’re incredibly excited to announce that we’re kicking off 2019 with the launch of our brand new Wanstead space – The Filter Bar.
An expansion of our original Wanstead cafe, The Filter Bar has been designed off the back of conversations with our regulars. It’s a quiet hub where Wansteadians can escape the hustle and bustle of London life, unwind, relax and enjoy a Larder coffee experience like never before.
To accompany the launch of The Filter Bar, the original Deli has a brand new brunch menu and you’ll also find we’ve decked out the kids’ area with new games, colouring in packs and a four-seater kids’ table – perfect for mini afternoon teas.
Officially opening on Saturday 26th January (with some free samples from the new offering) here’s a few things you can expect from The Filter Bar…
New coffee experience
We’ve been told that our Wanstead coffee drinkers would love a style of coffee more suited to linger over, so we now have a carefully curated filter coffee list which can be enjoyed by the pot and not just the cup. Ground to order, hand poured over the pot, and extracted slowly to bring out the natural sweetness in the bean, you can now enjoy blends from Costa Rica, Brazil and Ethiopia with more to come.
Alongside these filter offerings, we also have couple of new star serves. First up, our Nitro Brew. Think Guinness, then think coffee and you can start to imagine this theatrical, creamy drink, served chilled using the Larder’s own cold-brew. Our second must-try order is the Neapolitan Breakfast Shot – a concoction of raw egg yolk blended with sugar and our Revelation house blend espresso. Fortune favours the brave, those who try this beauty will find it’s essentially like drinking ice-cream.
If you’re after tea leaves rather than coffee beans, we’re proud to offer Wanstead’s widest tea selection – sourced from quality purveyors such as Tea Pigs, Pukka Teas, Numi Tea and Yogi Teas. We’ll also be serving winter-perfect cups and shots of Cutting Chai. A Mumbai recipe, this in-house Larder brew mixes sweetened milky tea with fresh ginger and cardamom. As always, our milk is organic and we have a range of dairy-free alternatives.
NEW MENU
The new all-day brunch menu epitomises our ethos of home cooked, whole food goodness using only the best ingredients. If we can’t make something in our kitchen, we’ve found local artisan suppliers who share our values. For example, our meat is sourced from the award-winning Shaw’s Family Butchers, our bread from east London’s Bread Station and baked goods from Dulwich favourite Boulangerie Jade.
Thanks to our whizz-bang new steam oven, our cooked breakfasts are now as healthy as they are delicious, with brekkie staples steam-cooked with no added fat. Eggs are free-range and we have gluten-free options for our toasted breads, sandwiches and wraps.
NEW VIBES
Above our big new comfy sofas, plants and oriental screens, you’ll find a glowing green neon sign reading ‘Got Time?’. This God’s Own Junkyard creation, designed by the owners 8 year-old daughter, embodies what The Filter Bar is all about – taking time to appreciate good food and coffee.
After speaking to our regular customers, we realised that as well as the buzzy vibe of our Deli, they were after a place on the High Road that they could unwind, relax and slow down a bit. That’s why this is our designated ‘Quiet Zone.’ That is of course until 5pm on the nights when we’ll be hosting a new music and events programme packed full of wine-tastings, coffee masterclasses and live entertainment. Watch this space…
P.S We’ll be running a monthly photo competition at The Filter Bar where you can win a month’s free coffee! All you have to do is share your pic of The Filter Bar tagging @thelarderlondon on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. Please remember to also include the hashtag #LarderFilterBar
